Josie Ashton spent a decade in UK secondary classrooms teaching art, English and French — usually all three in the same term, and rarely by choice. Coming to Terms is what she noticed on the way through.

Josie Ashton taught art, and then English, and then French at a secondary school on the South Coast of England for ten years, leaving the classroom in 2024. She now paints, writes and teaches part-time.
Josie Ashton is a pen name. The schools, colleagues and pupils in Coming to Terms have all had their names changed.
She paints in ink and watercolour, drew every picture on this site and in the book, and can usually be found with paint somewhere she didn’t intend it.
